Well, since this was revived I'll shed some light.

I don't know why people keep bashing Vista. I also don't know why people have problems like this. (Possibly this is because this issue was so long ago.)

I play and always have using the Programs Folder. I also have never ran into a patch problem or any WoW-related problem(s) related to Vista.

I think this is because most people are not using a Vista computer as an Administrator.

Because it's bloated and the only thing it offers that hasn't been present in other operating systems before is DX10; and even that has had succesful backports.

What do you mean by bloated?

It's not bloated unless you don't have a sufficient amount of memory.

An OS using 1GB of ram? How isn't that bloated?

edit: I don't want tostart the OS war. I think it's bloated, if you wish to further discuss this (in a civilized manner), IM me. (hotmail:[email protected])

No. Is there a reason to? (In other words, should I?)

"What do you mean the house isn't big enough? Move your kids out and you'll have plenty of room!"

On the original topic, I'm surprised that no one's really made a script to make this easy on people. Perhaps something written in PHP or a similarly intelligent scripting language, something that could detect the OS, the available priveleges, and all other relevant factors before moving the patch to where it would need to be, running it, and reporting on whether it was successful or not.

If my PHP were up to scratch (I haven't touched the language in over two years), I'd have a go at doing something like this myself.

And the reason I suggest doing it in a scripting language is that that way people can peruse it themselves, so there'd be no worry over malware or anything of the sort.

Just a thought, anyway...
