ace libs?

most of the ace mods i've downloaded have lib files in the .../addons/"addonname"/lib file.
so i have multiples....
would it be better to have only one copy of each lib in /addons ?
thanks

There have been many explanations of why every Ace-addon has libraries embedded.
Try looking up some info at the Ace wiki @ www.wowace.com

you don't have to worry, it only loads the latest versions of the Ace libraries, no duplicates

Actually it does load up every file wow can find. that means those files are loaded and parsed also. One way to make this shorter loading time would be by installing !!!StandAloneLibraries and wowaceupdater 1.7, and then update your addons from there.

There is a readme included in the !!!StandAloneLIbraries package how to install.

Just did as suggested, installed the standalone libraries and deleted the libraries from each addon's folder. WOOSH. loading time cut to around a fifth of what it was before.
total memory in use in-game seems to be 1 or 2 mb less too.
I love these forums, every visit is an education

When using !!!StandAloneLibraries do i run install.bat first, and delete all the libs in my addons?

You put that !!!StandAloneLibs folder in your interface/addons folder, then go into it and run the install.bat.

What this does is throw all of the folders from in that folder, out into your addons folder.

However, those folders are empty, you'll need to use WoWAceUpdater to install the files.

So, I did this, ran the game, no change to loading times. It was after that that I went through each addon and deleted the ace libraries, and shazzam!

Now, it'd be best to update your Ace addons using WoWAceUpdater from now on, and remember to 'install without externals', to prevent those pesky embeded libs from being installed again.

Also of note, I got an error saying I was missing the Toolbox-1.0 library which one of my addons needed, it wasn't included in the !!!StandAloneLibs folder, so I got it from wowace.com (WoWAceUpdater updates it aswell).

ok, do i need to have all my addons uninstalled first,a dn run install.bat? I uninstalled all of my addons, installed !!!StandAloneLibraries and ran the install.bat file. Then i installed all of addons with out external. Is that right? And if not when i delete the ace libraries, do i just delete the libs folder in each addon? or just the libraries in them?

Well the easiest way to get rid of all the unneeded embedded libs would be to select all installed addons in winaceupdater, uninstall (they will stay selected after uninstalling) and then install them again without externals.

it is worth another try.
reloads are a lot quicker for me.

ill explain what i did step by step....

DL'd Ace updater and standalon libs.
unzipped both
put standalone in the addon file
made a folder on the desktop for ace updater
opened the stand alone in place, "ran or installed"
it created empty folders named after each of the libs in my ace addons.
moved those folders up one level into .../addons
deleted the lib folders in each addon ( only if they were ace ... lol )
the whole folder dragging it to the trash.
ran ace update
clicked [edit] [mark installed addons]
marked the check box for the standalone package
marked a couple of others that i wanted to try
clicked [file][install/update marked files] mouse drag to [w/o externals]
waited 15 seconds.
done.
the empty lib folders filled and the deleted ones still gone, with the bonus of updating all the mods.

now if i can just figure how to turn off the audible aggro alert....

give it another shot. if you have a bunch of ace addons it really speeds up the ui reloads at zones etc.

BIG THANKS to those above for answering my question

I highly recommend using the 1.7 beta3 (or later) version of WoW Ace Updater, as it is more "intelligent" with regards to the !!!StandaloneLibraries "addon."

You also need to update the addons *without* externals.

Now, all I want is to get the .toc files generated so my FrameXML.log doesn't honk up about missing library files all the time...
