after restetting the game ui lost all carbonite settings

So with the freaking patch like many I had to reset my ui. Then discovered all my carbonite settings were gone. Including the little favorite settings that I had noted where all the things I need to find but can never remember where they are when up in smoke. I could have sworn there was some way to save that stuff.

The only way to ensure the safety of your saved information is to keep a backup of your WTF folder in its entirety. That folder holds all the addons info both per realm and character.

Addon settings are stored under WTF\Account\<name>

Carbonite settings are stored in WTF\Account\<name>\SavedVariables\Carbonite.lua

Deleting the WTF folder to reset everything might be a good idea from a Blizzard perspective to avoid problems, but in general is not required and it will delete all addon settings. I never do that and have never had a problem with a patch. Disabling all addons, then updating or testing old ones a few at a time works for me.

Anyway, you can restore your saved variables from your backups, right?
