4.0.3a + Carb 4.030108 + No addons = error

Have now completely re-installed WoW patches from 4.0.1 onwards and WoW now works fine.

Still Carbonite doesn't load (or appear to even try to load) on first login. I have to reload or logout and back in to get the following error:

objective not in the database?

"On one of his characters, all quests in his list that have objectives, say 'objective not in the database'."

I'm having the same problem. I have tried all three of the recent post patch versions, and none of my quests appear to be in the database. I tried removing the .lua files as suggested above, but all that did was make the addon not work at all.

I haven't seen any other solutions yet, so I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've never had this problem with Carbonite before, so I'm a little stumped here.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Only issue I am having is that quest on the map show up but there was also the color on the map showing the area. I look through the options can't seem to find how to turn it on not sure if it me or the program.

Well, I now know the issue lies with something in my WTF folder and it's not the carbonite.lua that sits there as I deleted that. I don't particularly want to have to delete it and start from scratch as I've put a lot of work into my UI.

Can anyone suggest what file/files in the WTF folder might be causing problems?

Thanks.

Sounds cool, but won't it generate a huge file of data? Taking long to load, to scan and space to process?

Question The quest giver dot on Carbonite map?

Such an amazing addon! Much thanks and Happy Holidays.

I've seen in this thread that the quest givers database for the beta version active today was cleared and that Blizzard's data is instead being used while new data is obtained. I've also seen that a dot is supposed to show on the Carbonite map to indicate the position of a quest giver per information obtained from Blizzard? I've got "Show Quest Givers" enabled but I don't see any indicator at all on the map even when I'm standing near a quest giver and the yellow ! mark shows in the mini map (which I've got configured to show as Blizzard had it to begin with). Is there something else I have to do, maybe something in the UI, to make some sort of quest giver indicator show up in the Carbonite map? I'm not getting any errors at all with any of the addons that I use.

Well, I'm seeing a bug with : 4.030108 on english:

I'm in Zul'drak and none of the quests show up on the map. And in the list, its showing me the quests in dragon blight, but none in Zul'Drak, even though they should be closer.

But if i click on any of the quests for Dragonblight I'm told they are not in the database. Even though when I logged in, in dragonblight it worked fine?

Quest Givers is from Carbonite data, which is currently empty. Blizzard provides locations of your current quests.

Not really. There is only one packed entry per unique NPC unit id. Not players. About 100 bytes per unit. Say you moused over 1000 NPCs, you would be using 100K. If you have a moderately fast PC with 4 gigs+ RAM, you would probably not even notice 10000 NPCs, which is probably the entire games worth of them.

There appears to be cases where the game functions do not return quest locations to Carbonite. Don't know why. I have seen it happen once and when I tried to debug it, it was working after enabling some debug messages and reloading. I've had almost no time to actually play the game, which does not help find these types of problems.

Areas come from Carbonite quest data, which has been deleted as we rebuild the database from scratch. This will take a few weeks for the current quests and a week or two after Dec 7 for Cataclysm quests. The database will be populated as we get the data, so the common quests will appear before more rare ones.

Blizzard does not provide quest area data to addons, so you get a point currently.

It may be the built-in plugin for the Clock in Titan Bar. Just logged in today to find that the clock on Carbonite was showing (even though it is unchecked) yet my Titan Clock is missing. Titan would not allow me to enable the plugin (nothing happened). When I went into Carbonite and checked the Clock option and then unchecked it, Titan all of sudden allowed me to re-enable the built-in clock plugin.

So, looks like Titan Bar's and Carbonites' clock handling are interfering with one another.

No error reports popped up either, which is odd.

Have managed to track my problem down to carbonite.lua in the \WTF\Account\xxxxxxxx\SavedVariables\ folder. It seems when a new version of Carbonite is installed it cannot write to this file in order to update it.

Am going to try working through it bit by bit manually updating it.

No. All addons should be able to write to their file in the SavedVariables folder. Actually the game reads and writes the data for the addon. You probably have files set as read only or user permissions problems on files or folders.
