Focus cast(wanted to know if it's just me)

I was just curious, when I have nUI on, my focus cast key doesn't work, I've set it to alt, control, and shift, and none will work. I turn off nUI, and it works perfect, just curious if this happens to anyone else.

Is focus key one of the options in the blizzard options screen ?

I've never used it myself so cannot comment. I usually have a focus macro to do use spells on a focus and that works fine with or without nUI.

Yea It is, under the interface options in Combat.

Hmm, just tested it on Nesingwary priest and she could use them all fine.

select target and type /focus
clear target
use focus key and press spell button
focus is attacked
focus comes up to attack and then becomes target as normal

I've never used this feature before...

use focus key (set it to Alt. nothing happens)

Is it supposed to re-target your focus? If so, it didn't. What am I doing wrong?

lol no use the focus key as a modifier with a spell and it will use it on your focus instead of your target sil

Perhaps my brain already fried (it's 93 degrees and no AC... fixin to go loiter in the walk in cooler at the 7-11 lol) but I still don't understand. I'm merely curious about how this works as I never use a focus.

/cast [mod:ctrl, target=focus][] whatever

I prefer making the macro myself since you can put a bunch of other stuff in also.

By the way, if you click the buttons while holding the modifier, does it work? If so, you just need to clear whatever binding is set to CTRL-1, CTRL-2 etc.

Target something
Type /focus - that target then becomes your focus.
Untarget them so only your focus is visible
Press the focus key and click the action you want to use on the focus
Focus is attacked/healed etc without you targetting it
It will eventually target you and you can progress normally but handy when you are busy doing something else and need to cast something regularly on the focus.

Heh, can you try it with key presses? Instead of clicks, I don't do it clicking, so I have no clue if that one has issues . On my PC, focus key and pressing numbers, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, doesn't do anything, it just self casts. I have my focus key set as alt.

Hmm, interesting .. Click casting works with the focus keys but key presses don't. But it seems to be a blizz issue as doing the same without nUI installed causes the same problem.

Ok, then it's not just me suffering from operator headspace? There's a Blizz bug with this? I cant get it to work with or without nUI enabled.

I haven't, though my control works fine, it's set to self cast, it's only focus cast that bugs out, haven't figure out what it is yet. Unless maybe it's the bar switching thing? Or is that shift?

I did check the key binding myself.

I tested with ALT key pressed down then pressed '0' so use that spell there. In my instance it was a healing spell with a friendly target set as focus.

If I press ALT and click the spell button it works fine. If I press ALT and press '0' it doesn't work.

Went into keybindings in case it was bound to something and it wasn't as I could bind it to something without it being set to something.


Just had another test and this time used a harmful spell.

ALT key pressed while not targetting anything but having a enemy focus. Pressed key 2 which was tied to an attack spell. Attacked the focus with no problems.

Hmm just tried a helpful spell on a friendly target and it worked fine. Strange how my first test didn't work. Will have to do that test again. Perhaps it was because it was a macro that changed targets anyway.

Aha, okay.

Example keypress combos:

ALT + 3 = works
ALT + = = works

CTRL + 3 doesn't seemingly do anything - pet action bar control ?
CTRL + = doesn't work

SHIFT + 3 = shifts action page
SHIFT + = = works

However, if the action on the button being used is a macro ( at least with extra targetting like my one ) it doesn't work.


Hope that helps you somewhat

As has been said if you wanted to switch the functionality of the SHIFT key to stop the action page shifting in that instance then the keybinding section should I expect clear it but whether it would affect anything else I don't know.

Ctrl + 1-0 is pet bar.
