That message is hard coded.

They release an update when one is ready.

open up Carbonite.lua in notepad (or other) and search for this line "local x=91014" the 91014 is the date backwards 14th October 2009 so just change it to some other date 101014 would be easiest .

To add a little to the discussion, the message only appears at login or reload and doesn't really mean anything. The current version is very stable (barring conflicts with other addons) so unless you are receiving a large amount of lua errors it's pretty easy to ignore the message. I'm not real sure why the authors put that in there, but having an "old" version of any addon is basically meaningless as long as the features are up to date and it's not bugging out on the user.

The message started yesterday, since the date for the message had not been increased for a few versions and the current version has been out for a while.

I hope to have a new version out this weekend.

There are people who hardly ever update and will continue using very old versions, so the message is basically a nudge to move them to a current version.
