Diablo 3 announced at Blizzard World Wide Invitational '08

Blizzard just announced their newest upcoming game, Diablo 3, during the opening ceremony at the Blizzard World Wide Invitational '08 in Paris France. Keep your eyes open on all your favourite sites for more details as the sites get their feeds out.

Cladhaire is at WWi and will hopefully get a chance to play it while there and give us some feedback on it when he gets home, so watch for that as well.

While some of the views (the isometric top down view) come from D2, the rest is totally new. I love the idea of destroying the landscape as I fight, and using the landscape to my advantage (such as bring down a wall to crush my victims). I forsee many a lost hour (and oh **CENSORED** moments when I look at the clock) in my future.

I've personally never played Diablo. Looking at the gameplay trailer I was initially put of by the idea of an isometric rpg, but the idea of coop intrigues me and the idea of in effect being able to instance with friends and progress my character solo and in a group is interesting.

Yeah, I never saw the appeal of this series. The gameplay seemed so simplistic, like Robotron with modern graphics. And, it seemed like all you'd do is grind the game endlessly for gear.
