Creating a Fan Update

I'm planning on creating a Fan Update of an addon that the author has been non-responsive on. What's the general etiquette for doing so? Any standard ways of doing things such as this?

Depends on the license of the addon. Normally if the license is non restrictive you would fix the addon and upload it as [addon name fan update]

Giving credit to the original author or authors. If you used code from any other addon you would also give those authors credit. Other then that you should be fine. If you cannot find license info for a addon or would like to double check, you can pm me the name of the addon and I will research it for you.

Re: fan update

Thankfully, the author stepped up and said they'd be updating it this weekend after being gone for two months. Much easier for me.

Thanks for the assistance.

And if you can find no license information for an AddOn (or any other creative work for that matter), it is automatically All Rights Reserved - which includes the right to distribute.
