I"m sure I've posted it at least twice here... maybe it was just once, but, yeah... I added the please donate text on March 7th and I made $4k in donations between then and Friday... it was increasing every day. I made $1500 over the weekend, but most of it was actually from people who don't use nUI but were livid at Bliz.

I'll repeat in a hurry here, as I did on the Bliz board... I am *NOT* complaining... just posting hard numbers. I'll also add that a lot of people have not updated yet, so they're still seeing the old language and I changed the language again last night to as not to cross BLiz's line and get sued. I *strongly* suspect it has a lot further to fall on a daily average before I know the real impact.

Hmmm... Now I'm wondering if they will consider all torrent downloads to be illegal and therefore justification to cut anyone's service. Isn't Blizz's patch downloader based on file sharing technology? Hmmm... An already concrete-like plot continues to thicken. Stay tuned, folks... It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I thought it was. I was once cut off from my ISP for downloading a shareware program through a torrent site because all of the regular mirrors were down. Had to spend about three hours on the phone explaining to the idiots that it was NOT an illegal download. Hope this doesn't happen again when 3.1 finally comes on-line.

Some schoolteacher a while back confiscated CDs and tried to call the cops because people were giving away Linux.

Apparently, there's a lot of failure-to-comprehend out there.

Agree whole-heartedly. And if the people who are supposed to understand and maintain a major ISP can't understand the difference between a shareware download and an illegal software copy download, well then this world is even scarier than I think it is (and I'm very cynical to begin with).

It's not uncommon, hell last week apple released a new SDK (iPhonograph I'm sure) and promptly came crashing to a halt tanks to a multi-gig download. They won't even *look* at bittorrent's technology and see how amazing it is because they think it's just a pirate tool. They don't get that it's a popular pirate tool because it makes transferring large files work so well.

Pft... try this on... I was having problems with network connectivity here at home. Sporadic random outages for 5 minutes at a time.

I call Brighthouse Networks and eventually end up talking to technical support. I explain to them that I have traced from my computer, through my router, to their cable modem and I could not see past their cable modem.

It took me 10 minutes to explain to THE NETWORKING TECHNICAL SUPPORT AGENT I was speaking with that it was not possible for my router to be the problem if I was able to talk to their cable modem on the other side of it, but nothing past their cable modem.

Tech support is generally like that. They don't understand the technology they're troubleshooting, they're just following the nice troubleshooting flowchart they're given. You're jumping ahead to step 10, which confuses them.

I might be wrong, but what I believe those "Tech Support" guys do is look your problem up on microsoft windows help (the same help available to any windows user), they go through the suggested steps, and when they get to the end of those steps that's all she wrote. It's "Sorry we weren't able to help you." As George Carlin once said (regarding doctors) "They're all guess-work in a white coat."
