Carbonite spam

ok so jsut downloaded the latest beta and all of a sudden i have carbonite spamming my chat box with things i cast. why? and how do i turn it off?

more to the point why are all these new things being enabled by default with no clearly labelled option in the carbonite settings to enable/disable these things?

I would suggest giving the carbonite options a revamp so users actually know which option does what exactly so you know whats going to happen when you use them.

I assume that a debug print wasn't commented out or something.
Agreed. That wouldn't be intentional, I'm quite sure.

I'm sure there's a chance for a response, but the developers don't check the forums every hour, or probably not even every day. Faatal or Haavok will most likely respond when they can. Patience, young Padawan.

I am having the same problem.

I found a workaround.

Step 1 join a custom channel "/join blahblahblah"

Step 2 go to carbonite general options and make it use that channel

Step 3 hide that channel from displaying in your chat log with the in game blizzard settings

Step 4 enjoy

ok i'll give it a try.

Edit: feek's solution provided in the link above posted by milctoast worked perfectly.

However, i still think the carbonite options should be reworked to be more user friendly with clearer descriptions on what the options actually cover. some cover multiple things which are not immediately obvious.

Personally I favor the simplicity of commenting out a single line over downloading and installing a whole new addon just for that line.

I commented out that line and found that I received "Carbonite file" errors and had to revert back to having the line uncommented. Did anyone else experience this? Anyone have an idea of why it happened or how to make it not happen? And no, it wasn't a simple mistake of not commenting the line properly, I'm a programming student and although I'm not really familiar with lua, I'm competent enough to comment a line out.

I'm using the method of redirecting the output to a different, ignored channel, but am curious as to why I had problems editing the lua.

It should have been a simple matter of putting -- in front of the one line. The if statement before can stay the same. Notepad++ sheds some light on the non-tabbed un-readable blob of code that is carbonite.lua if you're feeling cheeky.

Yes, I used Notepad++ to do the edit. The only thing I can think of is that I did it while in game and then reloaded my ui. Could this have caused the issue and if I do it when the game is exited might it work out better?

If I recall correctly, WoW only loads addon info on startup, so if you made any changes you'd have to completely restart the game to see the results.

You can edit lua files that have been loaded, make changes, reload ui and those changes will have taken effect.
