You should start off with some tutorials.

http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...t&pageNumber=1

The Interface Kit has a couple tutorials, and a bunch of useful files.

www.wowwiki.com is also a very useful reasource with many Howtos and the whole WoW API listed there.

The Lua Manuals also help:
http://www.lua.org/pil/
http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/

Lastly, the WoW Programming Book is a wonderful book that is intended specifically to learn how to make addons with XML and Lua.

And remember: start off with easy addons. You might not be able to complete an addon idea you might have till you learn a bit more about Lua and XML.

Hope this helps!

The most famous is "Hello World!". It is one of the tutorials in the Blizzard Interface Kit I linked above. Download that and it will have all the folders in your WoW Directory. Try the first tutorial out yourself.
