Suggestion: Upload - new version number not mandatory

Sometimes I do an update with really minor changes (just a word, line, etc.).

If I upload a file a new version number is mandatory ... even if I changed only one char in my source and don't want to set a new version number.

This is somehow bothersome to me. It would be great if the version would be optional and not mandatory.

Rename the old version before you upload, then you can upload with the name you want because it's no longer a conflict.

Another suggestion:

If I choose a new file to be uploaded the radio button should switch from
Keep: xxxxx to Replace with: automatically.

I always overlook this and nothing is uploaded.

That's a good suggestion - I always feel like I need to double-check that myself.

Maybe I'll just popup a warning the author can choose to ignore. Users like it when you give things version numbers as then its much easier for them to tell if they need to update. I do understand the need to leave the version number the same though.

Popups suck, your first reaction is "Okey whatever *click ok*"

Why not a checkbox by the version field "Allow same version number"?

You could check for a version number on the file, i.e MyMod_v1.1.zip, or MyMod-v1.1.zip, or MyModv1.1.zip, and then put the version number in the box when they upload.
