Green to Lua/XML hopefully a simple question.

I've been reading and looking through many forums for the last 2 weeks. I would like to create a The Loremaster achievement add-on and can not figure out how to place blips/icon on the in game maps. If i should start with Lua/XML for dummies I'm willing to do that but would rather not. Once I have code that will do 2 or 3 quests and allow for clearing quests as they are finished I can code the rest. I've tried picking through other add-ons to no avail as most of the add-ons that are small and do what i'm looking for are coded in a way that makes no sense to me and quite honestly I can't pick through them to determine what the code actually does.

Any help would really be appreciated. I did the WOW tutorials and they work for me but they do not do anything with maps or progressing through a list of objectives.
