most likely caused by the lack of RAM, 256mb is waaaay too little, upgrade it to at least 1gig.

Whats your graphics card?

0Blackmage0, your system is pretty decent. You could get a large boost in performance if you upgraded your video card from a 7300 series to a 7900 series or higher.

256MB of RAM is too little for Windows XP (or the gods forbid, Vista) alone. Recommended 1GB or more. Video card upgrade would help, but just watch your graphic settings.

If your having overheating issues consider a cooling pad for your laptop. If your frequently playing while sitting ont he couch put a hard surface under it to allow for airflow. Ironic that a laptop tends to over heat on your lap. Basically you need to promote airflow. That should help.

Bear in mind when a company states their minimum reqs, they mean minimum. Windows XP requires only 128MB min, but runs like crap with anything less than 1gb.

Good rule of thumb is to double the "recommended" for best performance (when budget allows)

Not sure if you are talking about an actual game package, but the latest requirements are always available here:

Can you elaborate on what graphic settings might help in this instance?

What are some "minimum" settings (either in the WoW video settings or for video card driver settings) that would help with this? *curious*

That's possibly for Burning Crusade. But yeah - I had to keep video settings turned down some myself, even with 1GB. Have 2.5GB now, and it's much better.

Yes they did with TBC, but even if you are not playing in Outlands or the new starting areas, as soon as you installed the newer game clients you got part of the new content (improved spell effects, newer armor models, etc..) so the hardware requirements would go up anyway.

What do you guys recommend setting video settings to (both in-game via the Video Options, and via video card settings) if you are running with lower RAM or have lag issues that might be remedied by lowering certain settings?

I run TBC WoW with 512MB RAM and GeForce2 MX 100/200.

I'm sure I will have to upgrade / get a new comp (better off i bet) when the new XPAC comes out.

Comps 6 years old with Pentium 4 @ 1.5Ghz

To answer your question:

Lowering your Terrain Distance in the Vid Settings increases your FPS a lot.
