Thumbs up Add WoWInterface Search to Firefox and Google Toolbar

Before you continue with this you MUST have Firefox OR Google Toolbar (for Firefox)

For Firefox Users

1. Download wowinterface.xml
2. Copy that to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

There you go. It's pretty simple.

For Google Toolbar users
Again, this is only for Google Toolbar for Firefox. I don't use IE, so I don't have any idea how to add searches to it.

1. Install the toolbar if you haven't done so already.
2. Click this link.
3. The window that pops up, click "Add"

There you go, it should be ready to use.

The firefox link just opens up the code on a new page. At this point, users will have to copy/paste the code and resave it in order to use. Just an FYI.

How about submitting this to Mozilla's Firefox AddOns site so it's even easier to end users to install? Once it's approved and on the official AddOns site, users just have to click the "Install" button and get the downloading, copy and pasting done automatically.

Copy/pasted the code in notepad++, saved as .xml, put into the correct folder and nothing. Opened the file and received the following:

Code:
XML Parsing Error: prefix not bound to a namespace
Location: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/searchplugins/wowinterface.xml
Line Number 2, Column 1:<os:ShortName>WoWInterface</os:ShortName>
Windows XP Home
Firefox 3.5.6

Actually you don't have to copy/paste it or anything, just right-click on the link and choose 'Save link as...', then put it in the indicated folder. Works like a charm. Many thanks for this!

There's two already there, been there for ages:

http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html wowi_addons (35570)
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html wowinterface (26587)

Additional ways to search is never a bad thing, though. Thank you for setting these up.

There's also four for Allakhazam's:

http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html allwowplugin (4063) (main site)
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html wowallaitem (7403) (item db)
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html wowallamob (7405) (mob db)
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html wowallaquest (7404) (quest db)

And one for Wowhead:

http://mycroft.mozdev.org/jsreq.html wowhead (11020)

You're welcome and yes this is how you do it. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out a way to link it without javascript

And for chrome users:
  1. Click the Spanner (top right below the close button)
  2. Go to Options
  3. Then to "Manage"
  4. Add
  5. Type wowinterface.com for name
  6. wowi for keyword
  7. Code:
    http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/search.php?search=%s
    for URL
  8. Profit!

Now when you type wowi <addon name> in the omni box you should go to the seach page for <addon name>.

Last edited by Slakah : 01-02-10 at 08:44 PM. Reason: wrapped the url in [code] tags to prevent truncating

I can't believe I never thought of using dropbox to host a webpage.
That's awesome

And for Opera users, just right-click in the search box, click "Create Search", type a keyword (I use "wi") and hit Enter. No plugins or digging through menus required.
