Depresjon, I installed it on my secondary hard drive on my laptop while keeping Vista installed on the primary. Now when I reboot the computer, I have the choice of booting into Vista (with all of my old settings intact) or Win7. Win7 will have to download several updates after the first time you log into it. When I first did, my display driver was completely out of whack and I was at minimum resolution for a while, but once everything updated it was good as gold. There's no need to fear, just take the plunge!

I similarly installed onto an extra partition on my harddrive and it recognised most of my hardware without me inserting a driver disk at all. Even the monitor was recognised and the relevant drivers installed.

I also installed it on another partition and it worked fine. Only weird thing I noticed is I went and played World of Warcraft off the installed version for windows xp 64. And my addons on were all different. I must have another directory with addons or something weird. Didn't figure that one out. I haven't taken the time yet to install WoW on the side that has windows 7 on it.

Also is there a way of removing the windows xp with out a format if I decide I want to only use win 7?

I probably wouldn't recommend trying to do that. When Windows 7 comes out officially in October you can do a fresh install and reformat etc to suit your needs but I would suggest you keep the current dual boot system available as if you don't get Windows 7 before May next year you will start losing functionality on the Release Candidate and thus will not be able to boot up unless you have a valid windows version installed.

I just have to say how much I love the fact that thread derailing here is such a non issue and usually quite fun to read (even if it does require mass therapy or medication afterwards).
