My Grid2 is showing up the old UI's party system and giving me a real buddy looking system.

It looks to me like your installation bugged out, I would try doing a fresh install of RealUI. Rename your Interface folder to Interface.old, copy in the Inteface folder from the new RealUI 8.1r11c and fire up the game. Keep in mind that this will require you to re-initialize all of your characters interfaces.

you can get around this by going into the default raid options and choosing 'show party as raid'

No, then I see Grid2 and default. Both.
