Gimp is another great graphics tool... it's open source and free, which makes for happy thoughts, too.

Photoshop works just fine on Vista. I use Photoshop 8 and Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

GIMP as spiel already alluded too is a really good program.

My wife uses Paint Shop Pro Photo x2 and Corel Painter X

You can try this spot for other alternatives, called Alternative too . It has alot of info on alternatives to many different programs.

So is Paint.NET - it's pretty nice too.

Gimp is a really good alternative to the high-end high-dollar stuff like PS, but I gets easily confused by all the windows it pops up on the screen.

Guess I'm too old-school. I like all my tools and stuff to appear in one nice, neat window.

How about trying out windows7 instead? It has all the great features of Vista, DirectX10/11 etc... without any of the slow and painful.

It's currently free to try out.

Yeah, I would definitely go with Windows 7. By far the best OS they have done in a very very long time.

Heh, I'm on windows 7 now as we speak, but I never had an issue with vista, only problem with it is people trying to run it on low end machine. Vista is sadly, ahead of it's time, and that's why it's dead. In any case, I've never had one of my old programs not work with vista, and I have some really old programs, the only ONE I could never get working was Sygate personal firewall, best damn firewall I ever had and it doesn't exist anymore .

All photoshops before CS3 have issues with Windows Vista/Win7 due to the palettes being separate windows in those versions. This was fixed in CS3 when they integrated the palette system into the main window itself, and further refined in CS4.

I currently use CS4 on Windows 7, and will continue to do so after Oct 21 when Win7 comes out.

If there is an WinME in the Windows NT family it's XP64. Tho not because it's that bad but more because lack of interest from developers (and somewhat end users) and hardware support.
