Dr. Damage support?

hey Spiel! I commented out "Range" in the HUD skins and it worked perfectly! Thanks a bunch for the help.

Was wondering something else however. I have used Dr. Damage for the longest time and I still use it with nUI however I can't get it to post the numbers on the action bars. I am using it for the tooltip info that it provides atm but was wondering if there was something I am missing or is it known that nUI's action bars won't display the spell/skill info on the bar? I saw that there is a Dr. Damage reference in the 'Integration' folder but I have no experience myself in LUA writing so I left everything alone!

Thanks for your great work and look forward to any input you might have!

As long as you have the most recent version of Dr. Damage it should work. I haven't tested lately, but Dr. Damage's author and I collaborated to get it to work with nUI and I haven't changed anything, so it should still work. If you have the latest greatest Dr. Damage and it's not working, let me know and I'll look into it.

Exclamation Membership has its privileges…

In the interest of trying to improve the benefit for nUI’s supporters as well as in the interest of trying to improve support for nUI, I’ve decided to implement a policy change regarding how I handle releases and updates.

To make a long story short, beginning with the 5.0 release of nUI, I will no longer be making the current version of the program publicly available for download. Rather, the current version of nUI will only be made available via direct e-mail to nUI’s supporters and language translators. The publicly available release of nUI will always be at least a couple of updates behind the version nUI’s supporters are using and will only be updated on an as needed basis at my discretion.

The bottom line is that user support for nUI is pathetic at best. That is not to say I do not deeply appreciate those who support nUI, quite the contrary… I have nothing but respect for them and that is in large part why I am making this change. Out of nearly 200,000 downloads of nUI, there are fewer than 100 people who have chosen to support it. I think they deserve better than to be treated the same as the tens of thousands of users who don’t contribute to nUI’s ongoing development.

And, quite frankly, I devote a LOT of time to nUI’s development and supporting its users and I feel I deserve better as well. ~smile~

I trust everyone understands this policy decision. Please feel free to comment or e-mail me at [email protected] should you feel the need.

spiel2001 thanks for great mod.
Btw signature speaks more about you, than about your users. Sad.

Anyone - is there a way to remove top black texture (seems to be called "console"), but keep mini-menu with ping and fps? I don't see any use of this texture, and it's eating screen space.
I thought about using transparent one, but which .blp contains it and what software can do tga2blp?

Kuzya -

Just download and install this optonal addon. http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info12113.html

To install just unzip the downloaded file and move the folder into the /Interface/addons folder. Then log back into WoW and make sure it's enabled.

To be sure... my signature is more about spending 30 years being a software engineer and dealing with the consequences than it does about nUI users ~lol~

Though, I have to say, when something is documented on the main page, in the distribution and about three messages down from the person who posts a "how do I" I must confess I do make funny faces. ~kidding~ (kinda)

Rest assured... your question has not already been answered 25 times ~lol~

There are three ways you can go about fixing the upper console....

First is check http://www.wowinterface.com/download....html#optional -- if memory serves me correctly, there's already a couple of optional skins there that make the top console graphic transparent.

Second is the quick and dirty solution of using '/nui console mouseover' in which case the entire upper console is hidden from view until you mouse over it. Which, in my mind, is the best solution.

Third would be to create a 512 x 512 transparent BLP file to replace the ones that are distributed with nUI. I don't recall their exact names, but it should be pretty obvious from the file names in [ Interface > AddOns > nUI > Art ]

That said... I might add this, too... if you're using FuBar or Titan Panel... rather than make the nUI console transparent, make their bars transparent and they'll blend right into nUI's console and look like a part of nUI. Also, the 5.0 will be adding several new buttons to the top console including durability, gold tracking, wardrobe, ammo, etc... so the space you're "saving" by making a transparent graphic is going to be consumed by buttons anyway. Food for thought... stiick with the '/nui console mouseover' option is my advice.

Transparent Console Addon does the trick, thanks a lot.

I tried console mouseover before posting, but really like to have latency visible all the time.
Until these new buttons will come around, I like it this way.

Exclamation The benefits of membership... (part 2)

I'd like to take a moment to try and clarify this morning's post about my change in release policy for nUI.

Let me start by saying I am *not* stopping development of nUI. That's about the first 50 or so e-mails I got. Quite the contrary, I am going to continue to aggressively develop and improve nUI... which is what the 5.0 is about.

Second, I am *not* asking people to make monthly contributions or to contribute more than once. That's like the next 150 e-mails. Mind you, I'm happy for those who do contribute more than once and monthly would be a dream come true, but that is not my intent. What I am hoping is that more people will make at least one contribution so they can receive the current fixes as release them. It seems to me that's only fair... if I'm working hard to add features and fix bugs for other people and answer hundreds of e-mails a week, it doesn't seem unreasonable for me to hope to benefit from that time invested. Yes? No?

Third, if you have already contributed to nUI or you're already getting e-mail notices from me about new updates when they are released, then you're already on the e-mail list that will be receiving the updates when I release them. You don't have to do anything to "get on the list" -- you're already there. On the other hand, if you have made a donation to support nUI and you aren't getting my e-mail notices, let me know and we'll fix it.

Finally, when I say "nUI Supporters" I am talking about three groups of people... those who have made at least one cash donation to support nUI, those who help me develop nUI (that's a really small group of people) and those who are doing my language translations for me. For now, that's it. If you are not one of those people, then you're impacted by this policy decision.

Now, all of that said, the policy is pretty simple... as I fix bugs and add new features to nUI, I will send nUI's supporters (see definition above) the updates via e-mail directly. Put another way, you won't even have to go get the updates, they'll be in your e-mail box as soon as they are released. I will be setting up a member's only area on the web site, as well, where you can manage the e-mail list yourself, etc. More on that subject later.

For a select few people who (in nothing that more than my opinion) I deem to have been actively contributing to nUI by (accurately and politely) answering people's questions, reporting bugs, making suggestions and generally contributing actively to nUI's success in ways other than writing code or cash donations, I may choose (again, strictly at my discretion) to invite them onto the supporter's list. Don't beg though... it pisses me off. ~grin~

What I am trying to do is to make this all fair. I work my butt off to develop nUI, answer people's questions, add new features, etc. I don't think it at all unreasonable to ask the people who benefit from that to help, too. At the same time, I strongly believe that those who do contribute to nUI's success and who do donate to support its development deserve to be treated better than those who do not. That said, I do not want to disrespect anyone and I will always continue to support all of nUI's users to the best of my ability.

The only thing I am saying with this policy change is that if you want to have the latest greatest version of nUI, you need to be contributing to its development. Otherwise, you will still be able to use nUI for free as you do now, it just won't be the most current version.

For those who wish to use nUI but are not interested in making a donation to support its development, you will still be able to use it and I will still be making releases publicly available. They just won't be the latest greatest with all the most current features and they will be released when I feel it is appropriate to do so. I will continue to answer all of your questions, listen to your feedback and to improve the program.

Umm... ~blush~

Okay... so how and when did that happen?

Somehow the patch notes ended up being the main download page. ~yeesh~

I'm fixing it now. Give me a couple of minutes and thanks for the heads up.

Just edit the skin file... there's a "font_size" option in there. Easy fix.

Thank you Spiel for the great mod and UI, it is one of the best bar none. Clean efficient from what I've seen, and easy to navigate. I donate for your hard work and hope that you won't stop making this UI better until you can't anymore.

It is something I can look into. Kodewulf is currently working on adding integration support for LibDataBroker so we can build bars directly into nUI and allow users to jettison FuBar and Titan and he seems to know his way around the Ace libs reasonably well... once we have LibDataBroker under control, we can look into LibSharedMedia.

I have to admit though that I am a bit leary of getting too entangled in the Ace libraries. That comes at a price including bloat, performance and support issues. Keep in mind that from word one the philosophy behind nUI has been to avoid third party dependencies as much as possible.

Normally I would agree but if it is offered as an optional addon would that be going against your philosophy?

Yes and no. No because it is "optional" but yes because what really ends up happening is telling people you have to have that library or none of that works.

The side effect of that is that I'm now tied to the Ace libraries and that's something I really have actively wanted to avoid. Another side effect is it puts me in the position of having to debug for people why this that or the other Lib{something} plugin isn't working with nUI.

That said, I can absolutely see the benefit of it.
