Inconsistent Error with Conflicting Addons

Since about a week or so I'm having this really annoying error that prevents Consolid8 to print the loot messages in chat. It only happens once, when I first loot an item (looting only cash doesn't produce the error), and then the error doesn't appear anymore but the loot isn't printed at all. I pasted the error down below, at the end of my post.

At first I thought the error lies with Consolid8, but it seems that's not the case. Then I thought it was Stubby's fault (part of Auctioneer), as that's the place where the error occured according to the error message, but that also doesn't seem to be true.
I did a few tests, but now I'm hopelessly confused by the results. Here's what I've tried so far.

- reinstalling Consolid8 after removing the folder and all related files in WTF
- reinstalling Auctioneer after removing the folder and all related files in WTF
- resetting chat settings, no visible change
- trying out alts

And then a weird thing showed: on my 18 Mage I have no such error at all. I (un)checked a few addons to match the list of one of the chars that does get the error (my 42 Paladin), but I still didn't get any error. Not even when I enabled every single addon on my Mage; it all works as intended.
Then I tried it the other way around by (un)checking addons on my 42 Paladin to match the Mage's original list, but strangely enough she still gets the error. This really makes me wonder where the problem could lie, as I have 2 chars with the same addon list but with different results. It doesn't make sense. Why do only some of my chars have this error, and not all? And how come I get different results when I try to reproduce the error on alts?

Because of this weird result I also didn't bother disabling addons and checking for this error further, as it seems to me that it's rather futile if the Mage doesn't even have the error with the entire list of addons running.

Can anyone give a bit of insight on this issue? I'm stumped. And getting more and more annoyed.

It could just be the way that a particular addon is configured on your pally (maybe that addon is saving things per character or with different profiles).

Completely remove your WTF folder (rename it or move it to your desktop). Log into your paladin. Do you get the error with default settings for the addons? If yes, then disable Auctioneer/Stubby. Do you still get the error? If yes, then re-enable those and disable Consolid8. Do you still get the error? If yes, then disable half of your addons. If you still get the error, re-enable those and disable the other half. Keep cutting down by halves until you find which one causes it.

WinterTime\WinterTime.lua:1417: ChatFrame_OnEvent()
Looks like winter time could be hooking the ChatFrame_OnEvent function.

Does the problem disappear when you disable WinterTime ?

Good catch, Blu - I missed that line.

OP: try disabling WinterTime as Blu suggested.

Consolid8 doesn't have such important per-char based settings, afaik.. only thing it configures is the place of its button and whether or not it prints loot - and disabling that last option does get rid of the error, but that also kills its effectiveness as the loot is then printed by default and not by the addon's purpose (i.e. on one line and with the grey items filtered out).
The thing is, the error occurs not only on said Paladin, but also on an 80 Priest, an 80 Death Knight and an 78 Rogue. That's why I'm so surprised that I couldn't reproduce the error on my Mage.. I'm starting to wonder if it's a level-based thing or so, silly as it may seem. I just don't know.

Thanks for the suggestion. I immediately tried this, but then I simply get the error without WinterTime in the message:

Then you'll have to try this half of my first response.

Ah I love a good addon challenge before breakfast.

*examines version numbers closely*
*unzips a few auctioneer zips*
*checks a few google searchs for norganna's site*

Go to your addons folder and delete this. According to :

http://wiki.norganna.org/Auctioneer/Installing

It is no longer needed. I think it might be causing internal problems with the libraries Auctioneer uses. Just looking into it more now.

Yep.

Configator appears in 4 auctioneer addons as an embedded library. Each version I have lists its version as 5.8.4723 with a possible subversion of 190. I would have to get into game to confirm but i'm not sure how to get it to list what libraries are loaded.

It's possible that one of these has an old library in it or you have a folder named "Configator" in your addons folder somewhere. Somehow this older one's getting loaded first and not the latest version and Auctioneer is effectively going "ok we're going to put this here" and falling through the floor as the old version of the library's defined a stair wall there.

Let us know how you go.

I did a search for all Configator folders, and the ones in Auctioneer (Auc-Advanced, Enchantrix, Informant and Beancounter) have a date in May 2010. However, there's also a Configator folder in Gatherer that dates from August 2009. I couldn't find the version numbers that you mentioned, so I had to go by the 'last modified' date that Explorer gives me.
I tried deleting the older folder from Gatherer, but that doesn't solve the problem - I get the same error when I first try to loot an item. Removing the other folders gives me a Lib error on startup, so I grabbed that one out of the bin again as well. Then I proceeded to do what Seerah advised. Results:

WTF folder removed: same old error (pasted below as nr 1)
Auctioneer et al disabled: error nr 2
Consolid8 disabled: no error

So it'd seem that Consolid8 does create the error. Or there's an error in another addon that doesn't show its rear until Consolid8 connects with it, dunno. I'm not savvy enough on scripting to figure that out on my own. :s

And it still doesn't make sense that I can go to my Mage, load both Auctioneer and Consolid8 and get no error at all - heck, I can load every single addon I have on my Mage and still see a perfectly working Consolid8!
I've been wondering if perhaps it had something to do with the fact that my Mage has never seen the inside of the AH before, and only works with the data that shows in the item tooltips.. but that sounds stupid, so it's probably unrelated. And then it would've been solved by deleting my WTF folder, which it didn't. Hmph, what's so special about Mages that they don't get an error?

I also tried making a new character and kill things until I looted a non-grey item (because Consolid8 ignores grey items and doesn't print them), but I got the same error as soon as I looted a white item.

I think you're going about your tests the wrong way.

Go into some low level dungeon with a lot of good trash loot, SFK, Deadmins, etc.

Disable ALL addons except Consolid8. When I say ALL, I mean everything. Don't leave bug catcher, or anything else to match your mage's settings.

Kill some monsters and loot. If the addon works normally, you know that addon is working fine.

Next, start enabling your addons one by one, looting an item after each time and see if the error pops up. If it does, disable and re-enable <bad addon> a couple of times to be sure, and then disable everything else EXCEPT Consolid8 and <bad addon>. If the error is there, you know it's that specific addon.

Unsoddingbelievable.. I thought I'd go to the AH with my Mage, see what happens.. I browsed a bit and bought an item. And now the looting error also occurs on my Mage!

I'll go and try out Sakurakira's suggestion now, but I just thought I'd post this weird finding here.. it has me baffled. Especially because the char I had rolled just to test this also has the error, and hadn't visited the AH either.

Try disabling the "Configator" addon that's listed in the "Addon Window" at your config screen - that's the one that matches the bad version number, I'm willing to bet (since it's showing up in the addons list on your errors, and embedded libraries don't show up there, afaik).

I'm not sure what you mean by 'config screen', but when I check my list of addons from the character screen there's no Configator in the list of addons. Nor when I'm in-game and check out the list in Interface-Addons.

I tried testing only Consolid8 by removing the WTF folder and disabling all addons except Consolid8 (I even went as far as removing the other addons from the Addons folder, because I read somewhere that even disabled addons can interfere when they're still in the folder). With nothing but Consolid8 running, I get the error I had named error 2 in post #9.

I think that means it's time to ask the author of Consolid8 to look into this, doesn't it?

Smile Hopefully fixed

Hi guys,

I am the author of Consolid8, and I've just posted an update that hopefully fixes the bug. I think it's pretty likely that the bug was in some obscure and badly coded part of the Blizzard Chat Frame (ChatFrame.lua:~2660) that has somehow cropped up. I'd just like to thank you all for your efforts to find the bug

Thanks,
