just to do with the new frames, they look excellent to me sept i seem to be having a small counting issue :P...

They each hold more then they need don't they? Like... the 15 raid frames hold 17 characters (2 2x4 panels and the main one) and the 20 man hold 21 (2 2x5 + main)

Obviously, this is a problem in trying to fit 14 frames evenly either side...
My thoughts were, would it be at all possible to have people designated as "main tanks" by the blizz interface appear in double width frames. That would resolve the empty squares in a useful way.

What'cha think?

Bloody awsome mate. As a healer, the health bars are nice and thick and easy to see. Can't wait to see if i can rid my self of Grid (been using it for years).

Great work. Thanx

Hello everyone,

now I just discovered this UI, and I find it really great. By against, I would like to know how to replace the action bar by Bartender. And as I wait for the interface 25 players.

Thank you very much Bentinma Horde Dalaran EU

nUI does not support disabling the built in features in order to use third party mods in their place. It is contrary to everything nUI is intended to be. Sorry.

To be honest, I haven't played with it... I had promised everyone I would have the raid screenies out by last night and I didn't want to miss my self-appointed deadline... it's a software engineering thing... you don't miss deadlines ~lol~

I'll be looking at it today after I complete the 25 and 40 man panels and I will hope to put out an update tomorrow which, Lord willing, will finally be the actual (dare I say it) last 4.0 update.

~lol~

You are correct that there are some math issues... the OCD in me has a terrible problem with the fact that there are raid counts which are not divisible by two. ~lol~

When I get to the point that I can sort raid frames, it is my intention to always leave the player out, so only the people in the raid with the player are shown in raid frames. That works for the 15 and 25 man raids making them 14 and 24 man -- but even that's an issue since a 14 man means 7 on a side (a blank spot) -- and then the 10 man becomes 9 raid units, 20 becomes 19 and 40 become 39 -- so it's still a mess any way you shake it.

The problem with your suggestion, however, is twofold... first, the logic would be pretty intense in terms of determining which unit goes in which frame, particularly when you take into account sorting preferences, etc. In addition, not every layout will have a blank hole you can use for the bigger tank frame, so then you need some way of conveying that a frame can be used for the tank, if there is a tank, if there is a place for the frame, if that unit frame panel is active, if the sorting is such-and-such, and if the player wants to have a big tank frame... you get the picture ~smile~

Exclamation Looking for a graphic artist...

I'm wondering if there are any nUI users out there who are graphic artists, or graphic artist wannabes? I'm plenty talented at programming and reasonably talented at organization, layout and mechanical drawing, but an artist is something I very much am not. I paint with code, and need a compass to draw a circle ~lol~

I am looking for two or three talented artists who would be willing to donate some time to help me with art for nUI and for the nUI web site in exchange for being on the nUI supporter's e-mail list for updates, etc, or just because ~smile~

What I would like to do is to create some artists concepts for the web page look and feel and for some alternate nUI layouts (like radically different layouts, including minimalist layouts) and skins. Stuff from a purely artistic point of view, eye candy. From there I could write the code to wrap the web site, or the layout, around the visual idea.

So... if anyone would be interested in taking that task on to help us grow nUI, let me know.

Exclamation nUI installation notes...

I wanted to post this in the forums as a general interest post and to provide a point to refer folks back to (or copy/paste from) when people are having installation issues with nUI. You can ignore it otherwise ~smile~

----------------------------------------
How to Install nUI for the first time...
----------------------------------------

nUI is designed to work right out of the box with almost zero setup or configuration. There may be some personal preference items you'll want to configure after you install nUI, but aside from that and setting up your action bars there's very little you need to do.

That said, there are a lot of features built into nUI that players normally use a host of other mods to accomplish... action bars, cooldown counters, range and out of mana indicators, HUD, auras, unit frames, and on and on. As such, the potential for conflict with a long list of already installed mods is very large. To that end, I recommend you always start with nUI by doing a clean install in order to eliminate pre-existing conflicts and in order to get the best possible performance out of nUI.

First time nUI installations should be performed as follows...
  1. Exit WoW and rename your [ WTF ] folder to [ WTF.saved ] as well a renaming your [ Interface ] folder to [ Interface.saved ]
  2. Log in to WoW without installing any mods, choose an existing character and set up your video and sound preferences as you would like them to be, then exit WoW again.
  3. Install nUI into your Interface\AddOns directory (see general mod installation note below)
  4. Log back into WoW and make sure nUI is working as you would like. Everything should be present and functioning and the only "issue" should be that your action bars may not have the spells on them that you want and where you want... you can fix that later.
  5. Begin installing the third party mods you would like to use with nUI (Omen3, Recount, DBM, etc.) one at a time and log into WoW after each one to make sure that nothing has broken, your frame rate didn't get tanked, etc. If you find a mod that breaks nUI, let me know and we'll look into it. It is *not* recommended that you install mods that provide features nUI already provides.
  6. Once you have all of your mods installed, you can set up your action bars if they are not already as you want them. All you have to do is drag spells from the spellbook onto the button you want them on. If you want to move a spell from one button location to another, use shift-click and drag. If you are a warrior, a druid or rogue you can change stance, form or stealth and nUi will switch your action bar... then just repeat the process.
  7. The only other thing you may want to do is set your key-bindings. nUI, by default, uses the same key bindings that you have configured on your Bliz action bars. However, if you've been using a third party bar mod, nUI will likely not be able to copy those bindings. There are two ways to set your key bindings: the easy way is to mouse over the button you want to change and press ctrl-alt then right-click your mouse which will open the key binding interface for that one button. Alternatively, you can press escape to open the Bliz menu, select "key bindings" and scroll to the bottom of the key binding page where all of nUI's action bars and buttons are listed.
That's it, you're ready to play. If you decide you would rather not use nUI after you've played with it a bit, you can just remove the new [ WTF ] and [ Interface ] folders that were created for your nUI installation and rename your [ WTF.saved ] to [ WTF ] and [ Interface.saved ] to [ Interface ] and you'll be right back where you were before you installed nUI.

----------------------------------------
How to update an existing nUI install...
----------------------------------------

Updating an existing nUI installation is ultra-simple... just download the new update and unzip it into your [ Interface\AddOns ] directory. That's it. You do *not* need to remove or change your WTF settings when updating nUI unless there's a major change in nUI and an announcement is made accordingly.

Likewise, you generally do not need to delete your nUI directory from [ Interface\AddOns ] before you do an update. With the exception of major version updates, nUI does not remove or move the distribution files that are included with it. Generally, at most, nUI will add new files from one update to the next.

That said, if you feel there's a problem with your nUI installation, there's no reason you cannot delete your [ Interface\AddOns\nUI ] directory and then reinstall the distribution package in it.

One of the biggest things I noticed, while raiding I was use to having target of target for players, I know this is kind of hard to do, but maybe have one person we can set as almost like a focus to see what they are targeting with out having to click on them.

The attached screen shots are for the reworked 10 man raid frames as well as the new 15 and 20 man raid frames. I'll have screen shots of the 25 and 40 man raid frames up tomorrow.

Let me know your thoughts.

That's easy... target the player you want as your focus and click "/focus" and voila, you have a focus frame dead center in the display. That focus frame also includes a "target" button which allows you to see the health of the focus' target as well as being able to click that target to make it your target.

In instances, I often set the tank as my focus on my hunter so I can do misdirects to him and as he changes targets, I can just click his target button to change targets with him.

You also have a ToT in your HUD of course and a ToT in the raid frame for the actual target of your target.

Suggestions

I want to know if you will have an option to keep track of the money for your character without having to open your bags and when will the ammo option be implemented.

The gold tracker and the ammo tracker are both planned for the console bar. As for a timeline, I'm not 100% sure at this point. Priority one is getting the support for custom layouts in place. After that, I've got some bug fixing to do. I would like to get the gold tracker, ammo tracker, wardrobe manager and durability manager in place as soon after that as possible.

In the meantime, nUI is compatible with FuBar which can provide all of that functionality. (or Titan Panel)

Exclamation A sneak peek at raid unit frames... (part 2)

As promised... here's a look at the 25 and 40 man raid frames as well. Comments and suggestions are welcome. I've included a few other screen shots from my tweaking today, as well.

The attached screen shots are 25 man, 40 man, 15 man and 10 man in that order.

Chatter conflict

First of all, I want to say great job! I love nUI. I have never had any issues with it until recently. I installed Chatter and everything seems to work except it will not save my edit box placement. Everytime I log out and come back in it goes back to it's normal spot. I've read multiple threads looking for a resolution and have yet to come up with one. I disabled all of my addons except Chatter...went in, saved everything how I wanted it and logged out. I logged back in and everything was as I left it. I then enabled nUI and logged in and the issue was there again.

So my question is - is there a fix for this or another chat mod that doesn't cause conflict?

Thank you in advance.

nUI takes a pretty brute force approach to positioning the chat frame and the chat edit box in that chat frame, so I'm not surprised to hear that this is happening and there really is not a simple fix for it and if the goal is to move that edit box, I doubt there's any chat mod that will get around nUI's rough handling of that. If you're just looking for a chat mod to give you time stamps and such, then Prat is what most nUI users seem to go with.

I use PhanxChat as it's not as bulky as Prat. So far as I've noticed, there's never been any conflicts between PhanxChat and nUI.

The new raid frames coming up for v5.0 look great Scott! Less and less addons to install once 5.0 is out! Keep it up!
