Cartographer problems

I have been using Cartographer for several years now and been very pleased, until recently. I keep losing my poi's, gathering info, any map reference I have created. Sometimes when I just log out and come back all the information is there. I've kept it updated with WoWAce Updater but the problem continues.

I would like not to change to another map program but I am becoming frustrated.

If I was to use/switch to another map program what would anyone recommend? Can the information from Cartographer be imported to another map program?

Unfortuantely the more popular map add ons out there have fallen into the update limbo. The more notable ones are MetaMap and YAtlas. MetaMap has a fan update posted on Curse as well and YAtlas lost its support for add ons like Gatherer and such.
