Yeah sadly no matter what it likes to claim, WINE is not perfect and does not come without overhead. Sign the petition for a native Linux client here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/wowlin/petition.html

It actually shouldn't be hard for them to do, Mac and Linux are both more or less Posix compliant, meaning the Mac client should require only small modification to run on Linux.

Petition signed! That and the problems with some of the Flash plugins for some sites are the only reasons I'm not using Linux.

I should clarify what I meant by problems in flash... try going to something like the Fox TV site and see if you can load their player for viewing tv shows. I get a msg stating that the os is not supported. It isn't that flash itself isn't working... just can't get the functionality for viewing some of the tv shows I like to watch online.

Yeah its a known issue. Basically they are relying on a Windows algorithm (which of course is not open source). SOME of this can be used by running Gecko under wine.

erica647, did you try to use Opera and have it identify itself as Opera on windows? I don't think there's an option for it with firefox (which is why I keep opera around).

There is a plugin for it on firefox, but I can't remember what it's called.

I haven't tried that... I didn't know you could do that. Thanks Dreadlorde and I'll give it a shot when I try Linux again.

Isn't it a bit much to install pulseaudio for just one computer?

I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu and am in the process of installing WoW and the patches. What I've noticed so far is that flash doesn't seem to work for me still when trying to watch tv shows like on Fox... I'd still love to know the trick to making that work. Flash seems to work in some places but not others. Anyone have any more ideas, site links, tips and tricks, etc.? I'll post more I'm sure as I work to get WoW running. Thanks all for the help so far!

Pulseaudio is preinstalled on Ubuntu and that is not required for flash, it may only prevent sound to work in flash if not configured. Other wise flash should work.

Just update to latest and enable all repos in synaptic then install flash-nonfree.

If that doesn't work say what exactly doesn't work like no flash at all or just something missing audio and stuff.

flash 2

Btw if you have flash already installed and it don't work you can try to uninstall and install again. For uninstall use purge option in synaptic so it removes everything from flash package then install it like normal.
