Addon idea: CityCompass

CityCompass

Minimap button / FuBar plugin to quickly pop up waypoint arrow (using Cartographer/TomTom) to nearest bank / auction / trainer / shop / etc.

• Should be very-very simple
• Configurable - ie left-click: directions to bank, right click: class trainer; shift-leftclick - auction, shift right - flightmaster. There should be an option to show full drop down list of stuff in the particular city. Everything should be reconfigurable, but default settings should be sensible enough.
• Probably will have to have a built-in DB of coordinates of various NPCs
• In case e.g. Paladin comes to Darnassus and clicks 'Class Trainer' button, instead of doing nothing, should suggest the nearest city where you can get some training. Same for other things.
• Objective is to save time looking for guards to ask directions and be a little bit more helpful.

Anyone thinks it could be useful?

im sure it would be useful to certain extend ( arrow is not smart, it might tell you to take a dunk in the canals to imprint your face on the wall ). I'm not a modder however, the addon wouldn't be all that simple. It would actually have to store data for POIs in the city or had some other way to grab it. That's just a beginning. Sounds more like full fledged addon request with fubar support. XD

There's an add-on that does at least some of that. Called Town Guard, I've only seen it on Curse.

Shouldn't be too hard. Just have a data set of waypoints for Cartographer or TomTom to read (TomTom can handle multiple waypoints, right?). Then, a FuBar addon to let you pick your destination. The hardest part, I think, would be coding it so that the addon can direct you to the nearest waypoint when you need directions. Not only that, but also being able to guide you to the nearest AH if there are multiple ones (like the 8 in UC for example).

The data would also have to allow for waypoints to only connect to specific other waypoints, instead of just marking a path to the nearest waypoint.
